Psalm 1 (The Way of the Righteous and the End of the Ungodly)

Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;  (2) But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. (3) He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leave also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.

(4) The ungodly are not so, But are like the chaff which the wind drives away.  (5) Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgement, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous (6) For the LORD knows the way of the righteous, But the ungodly shall perish.

A great Psalm, it tells us how we should live, how we should daily walk with God, do not sin, do not be scornful, but be delighted in his word.  If we do this daily, and be reverent, our knowledge will grow, our roots will be in the word and we will not wither in our faith, but be prosperous and go forth in the great commission that is to set an example, and to win souls for Christ.

This Psalm is Didactic in style, meaning it is to instruct or teach.  It shows the contrast between the righteous man and his rewards, and the ungodly and sinner and their downfalls. The Psalm, warns that those who are ungodly are like chaff in the wind, which are blown about, they have no firm planting and cannot grow or prosper.  The ungodly and sinners will not stand in the judgement with those who are righteous.  It reminds us that those who are righteous and follow the LORD EVERY day and in everything we do are rewarded but those who do not shall perish.
